KU Leuven

Founded in 1425, KU Leuven is one of the eldest universities in Europe and is the largest in Flanders. The university caters around 40.000 students each year and has around 18.000 staff members. The Teaching and Learning Department is responsible at KU Leuven for the vision, policy and quality of higher education, for advice, training and support of teachers, teaching staff and students, and for the formal organisation and administration of education and its processes. Within this department the Academic Development and Support Unit develops multimedia products and media systems, and supports in an integrated and interdisciplinary way the effective use of audiovisual and new educational technologies for multicampus education and other communication processes in KU Leuven and its Association, thereby focusing on pedagogical, media, technological and organisational aspects. The department acts a.o. as an interface at the university for networked e-learning in an international context.

The KU Leuven Teaching and Learning Department has built up over the past 15 years extensive experience in the operational and financial management of projects and has expertise in coordinating and/or participating in research, development and implementation projects (e.g. LLP, Tempus, FP7,...) related to virtual education, virtual mobility/campus, e-learning, and technology-enhanced learning in general. The unit has thus the expertise necessary to coordinate the ARMAZEG project. KU Leuven will manage and coordinate the seven work packages and will ensure that all major time-scales are adhered. KU Leuven will also manage the finances and logistics of the project and ensure outputs are delivered in an efficient and timely way.
